The Energy Professionals Association Announces Expansion with Addition of Energy Professionals of Ohio
HOUSTON – December 5, 2022 – The Energy Professionals Association (TEPA) has announced its acquisition of the Energy Professionals of Ohio (EPO). Shannon McGriff, TEPA Executive Director, and Greg Bechert, EPO Board Member, made the official announcement during this year’s annual TEPA Conference in Austin, Texas, on Thursday, November 10th. TEPA and EPO are non-profit, self-regulated associations led by a volunteer board, and comprised of brokers, retail energy providers and affiliated companies that transact in the competitive energy marketplace.
“This acquisition is an exciting step forward for the two associations that are both committed to advancing retail energy markets,” said McGriff. “EPO members have been important in shaping the energy market across Ohio. For almost a decade they have supported Ohio’s residents and business owners as the state navigated the development of a competitive energy market. We’re excited to welcome EPO’s members to the TEPA family and look forward to supporting their efforts to improve energy choice, transparent markets, and competition across the state.”
Ohio’s Senate Bill 221 went into effect in 2008 and was the catalyst that allowed the state’s consumers to compare electricity providers and choose a plan from a set of retail energy providers. EPO has been active in supporting legislation and policy for energy choice in the state.
“The Buckeye State has a robust and competitive energy market, but there are some challenges to address,” said Bechert. “Joining with TEPA will give us access to additional resources, talent and opportunities to continue to advocate on behalf of our customers across the state. TEPA has become a respected voice in the national competitive marketplace, and we look forward to becoming a part of the TEPA family.”
TEPA was founded in 2005 in Texas. The EPO acquisition is the third expansion for TEPA outside ERCOT within the last nine years. In December 2013, TEPA expanded into the Northeast U.S., consisting of PJM Interconnection, NYISO and ISO-NE. In 2018, TEPA merged with The Illinois Professionals Association that operates in MISO.
