This year’s TEPA’s annual Illinois Conference included an early morning breakout session for brokers with Freepoint Energy Solutions and continued with the following presentations: Policy and Progress: Key Regulatory Updates moderated by Curt Fiedler; Achieving Sustainability: Goals, Strategies, and Partnerships moderated by Kristen Fornes (ENGIE); Championing Competitive Markets with Young Kim and Richard Spilky; and the Resurgence of Demand presented by Mark Pruitt.

Columbus Conference

Our second year in Columbus since joining with EPO, we hosted a two-day conference included a Pickleball Tournament sponsored by Dynegy and Welcome Reception at the Mandrake Rooftop sponsored by SmartestEnergy U.S. Our second conference day included the following: Bill to Grid: The Role of Policy in Ohio’s Energy Market Dynamics moderated by Kevin Schmidt; a Market Update presented by Rob Wood (NRG); Efficient Energies: Helping Customers Achieve Sustainability Targets moderated by Steve Campbell (TEPA); and Advising Through Adversity moderated by Andy Cormie.

Dallas Meeting

We moved to a new Dallas venue for 2024 and kicked off the meeting with an ERCOT Market Update with Kenneth Blenk followed by Balancing Technology, Sustainability and Strain led by David Smart and a TEPA Update with Shannon McGriff.

Our 3-day TEPA National Conference agenda kicked off with ERCOT CEO, Pablo Vegas, who provided an overview of the ERCOT market. Additional topics included a Sustainability panel led by Steve Campbell; Marketing Pricing panel led by Sean Kelly; Executive Round Table led by Javier Barrios; a Market Update with Stephen Schork; Powering the Future: Technology’s Impact on Energy Market moderated by Tim Carter and a ERCG survey report from Young Kim.

Washington D.C. Meeting
September 20-21, 2023

Our inaugural Washington D.C. meeting included two presentations starting with Mark Lausten: Technical Lead, Virtual Power Plants, U.S. Department of Energy Loan Programs Office and followed up by Travis Fisher: Director of Energy and Environmental Policy Studies, Cato Institute. Our panel focused on Sustainability and was led by Steve Campbell.

TEPA Illinois Conference

Our TEPA Illinois Conference kicked off with three ABC-only breakout sessions led by Dynegy, NRG and Constellation. Conference topics included “The Expanding Definition of Choice” led by Mark Pruitt followed by a legislative panel featuring Doug Scott (Chairman of the ICC); a Broker & Supplier panel moderated by Amperon’s Alex Robart and a special Power Women of TEPA discussion with mother/daughter speakers Deborah Meek and Ariel Smith. Rich Spilky offered his insight into Power Purchasing Strategies in retail energy markets.

TEPA NYC Meeting
June 27, 2023

Held in the heart of Manhattan, our NYC meeting was one of our most attended meetings in New York. We were honored to have Doreen Harris, president and CEO of NYSERDA open our meeting with her efforts and vision for the NY energy market. We also enjoyed an discussion on “The Transition to Electrification” moderated by Steve Campbell followed by a market update presented by John Vieira with Mantis Innovation. We ended on a high note with a spirited conversation with our Legislative and Regulatory roundtable led by Shannon McGriff.

TEPA EPO Conference
May 23-24

Our inaugural TEPA EPO Conference was a huge success bringing in a record number of guests. This was our first year in Ohio since welcoming EPO members to TEPA. Two broker-only sessions led by SmartestEnergy US and Freepoint Energy Solutions kicked off the day’s events. The conference kicked off with a fireside chat with Shell Energy’s Jeff Colvin and was followed by a “Look at Legislation and Policy Impacting Ohio Energy”; a dynamic presentation by Brian Habacivch about the Shale Revolution; and the implication of A.I. on Energy.

Shell Energy’s Jeff Colvin kicked off our Dallas meeting with insight on the market and was followed up a sustainability discussion led by Sam Alsaheb; Brandon Stanislaus of Vistra / TXU Energy provided us with a market update; and Sean Kelly moderated a panel called “Demand Side Disruptors”.

TEPA Northeast Conference
Thursday, April 7th
The InterContinental Barclay Hotel

Our 8th Annual TEPA Northeast Conference was held in-person at the InterContinental Barclay Hotel in New York City. Highlights from the conference included a discussion about the impact of the Russian invasion on Ukraine by Matt Smith, Lead Oil Analyst at Kpler Americas; a review of the ERCG ABC survey by Young Kim and NEPOOL and NYISO market update by Brandon Fong, Principal Commodities at Constellation. Regulatory, technology and sustainability panels were also a part of the conference agenda.

TEPA Philadelphia Meeting
March 29-30
Le Meridien Philadelphia

Philadelphia hosted this years Northeast Conference at a new location, the Le Meridien Philadelphia. We enjoyed a PJM Market Update with Zane Kershner with NRG; a Regulatory panel moderated by Bill Moul; ABC Study Review with Young Kim; and a panel discussion led by Eli Sachs. Daniel Englehardt with the NJ Office of Homeland Security and Michael Geraghty with NJ Cyber Security Collaboration and Integration Cell offered our guests insight on the latest security challenges facing the U.S. energy grid.

TEPA Houston Meeting

Our 2023 Houston meeting kicked off the new year with a record number of guests with featured speakers and topics including “The Winter That Wasn’t” with Keith Poli of Constellation; our Sustainability Panel led by Steve Campbell; Texas legislative update with Kathy Grant; and an update on Lubbock, the newest market opening up in Texas by Edwin Dearman with Shell Energy.

Our Baltimore TEPA meeting included a candid conversation about current economic conditions with Ed Fortunato, Chief Economic Analyst with Constellation; a panel discussion focused on “Selling in a 15-Year Market High”; and a PJM Market overview with Jason Gwynne, Exec. V.P., Portfolio Management & Supply at Shell Energy.

Our TEPA Illinois Conference included a special Broker-only event on at Wrigley Field followed by our conference on Thursday. The conference included a Sustainability Panel moderated by Steve Campbell; Customer Choice panel moderated by Shannon McGriff; Technology Panel moderated by Sean Kelly; and Broker Panel moderated by Andy Cormie. Special presentations included a market update by Brian Habacivch; Energy Policy panel moderated by Steve Morrill with panel members Senator Bill Cunningham, Patrick Evans (Executive Director at Illinois Energy Association, and Carrie Zalewski, ICC Chairwoman; and a special keynote address about ABC Business Strategies with Mark Pruitt.

The Dallas TEPA meeting included two panel discussions, “Energizing Bitcoin: The Supplier Side of the Deal” and “Understanding Bitcoin Mining and Flexible Load’s Impact on Electricity Markets”, as well as an ERCOT market overview and the impact of rising market prices.

This year’s TEPA National Conference at the Hotel ZaZa Austin included a golf tournament, Casino Night and Wine Tasting event. On Wednesday, conference registrants enjoyed a morning filled with 30-minute breakout sessions featuring topics on technology, the influence of digital media on the competitive market, and expanding retail energy into new markets. The conference on Thursday kicked off with a much anticipated conversation with Brad Jones, the Interim President & CEO of ERCOT. Additional speakers included Matt Smith and Peter Kelly-Detwiler and special panels with leading energy professionals.
